Chamber concert featuring music by Franz Schubert
One of the most impressive figures of musical Romanticism is Franz Schubert, who had a particular affinity for water.
The musicians of this local chamber concert base their program on his works, as it also includes several vocal pieces that will be performed in purely instrumental versions. This creates a wonderful opportunity to moderate the concert, talk a little about the pieces, and recite some poetry. It brings variety and color to the concert evening.
A few songs from the cycle
“Die schöne Müllerin” (
The Fair Maid of the Mill) will be performed, in which the brook is personified as the miller’s friend and advisor (violin and piano).
This is followed by the choral piece
“Auf dem Wasser zu singen” (
To Be Sung on the Water), arranged for string quartet, and as the main work of the evening, the
“Trout Quintet”, performed in its original instrumentation. It bears this name because the variation movement draws on Schubert’s own song
“Die Forelle” (
The Trout).
